Items are essential in this game because there are only a limited supply of bombs you can use to do damage and clear out areas. Items help in various different ways depending on their types. Here are all the types of items in Binding of Isaac and how you can use them:

  • Passive: These are unique permanent buffs applied to Isaac and applied automatically
  • Activated Items: These are rare items that provide elusive power-ups that can be used multiple times with a cooldown time. Activated items can be used by pressing the SpaceBar on PC and L2 button for consoles.
  • Tarot Card: These mysterious cards that give you a random power-up to use once. Tarot Cards share the same slot as Pills so you can only have one of either at once. You can use Tarot Cards by pressing the Q button.
  • Pills: These are more commonly found items that give you buffs that can also be used just once. There is just one slot for Tarot Cards and Pills so you can only carry one at a time. These have the same key as Cards so you have to press Q.
