In Ubisoft’s latest installment of the Assassin’s Creed series, you start with Yasuke, but soon, you’re taken to Naoe’s world and will be there for quite some time. This may lead you to wonder when exactly can you play as Yasuke in AC Shadows? Since Naoe is a Shinobi, the gameplay is more about spying and infiltrating locations with silent takedowns, however, Yasuke is a Samurai who uses his power to take down enemies. Here’s what you need to do to get the shift in gameplay and unlock Yasuke in Shadows.
How to Unlock Yasuke in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?
You will be able to play as Yasuke after completing the Temple of the Horseman main story mission. No spoilers here, but once you get to the Tea ceremony quest, you are around 7 quests away from getting to this particular quest. During Temple of the Horseman, you are tasked with assassinating an important character. After the fight, you will see a cutscene and a dialogue choice in your Hideout.
This brings you to the end of this quest, and soon you will be able to take control of Yasuke and experience his story. Depending on how immersed you are in the side missions and exploration aspect of the game, this can take anything from 10 hours to even more (12-15).
How to Switch Characters in AC Shadows?
To swap characters in the game, complete the quests called Lightning and Thunder, and Mibuno Showdown after which Yasuke will be playable and you can switch between the two protagonists.
You can do this by:
- Opening your inventory and use the button prompt at the bottom of the screen. Press and hold the Play as Naoe/Play as Yasuke button and after a loading screen, you will appear at the same location as the character you chose.
- Fast traveling via the map. Open the World Map and choose the spot you wish to fast travel to. You will see two options: Fast Travel and Fast Travel – Naoe/Yasuke. Press and hold the button prompt for the latter if you wish to switch the character as you fast travel.
You can choose your character based on the type of mission you’re about to take on. Naoe is an assassin who is lightweight, can sneak around easily, and is an expert in stealthy assassinations. She is not strong enough to take on a group of enemies at a time who are all alerted to her presence.
However, Yasuke is a powerful one-man army who boasts great strength and raw power, but he is slow, and stealth is not his strong suit. Using Eagle vision and using tightropes for air assassinations is not an option for him.
