Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is the biggest RPG experience in the series and with it comes a ton of things that can easily overwhelm even the best of the series’ fans. But often with any games, there are a few things that get left out or completely ignored by most people which might not make the game as fun as it really is. After playing the game exhaustively and clocking in over 50 hours in the game, we’ve come up with a few things that we wish we knew before playing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. If you’re new to the game, these tips can make a world of a difference, so stick around and read until the end.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Playing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
Norway Isn’t Everything There Is
While Assassin’s Creed Valhalla starts off in Norway, the game actually begins in England. Whatever you may experience in Norway will be part of your training in the game, even if you haven’t explored Norway completely, it’s okay to leave for England as you can always return back later in the game.
I spent over 6 hours in Norway when the game began just for fear of missing out on something important and this does stretch the joy of the game. As soon as you get to England, a lot of things open up and this is where you will get to see the title of the game. While there are more areas in the game that you can explore. England will be your new home for the foreseeable future.
Raids Are Exciting And Exhilarating
Raids are essential to get raw materials and supplies, you will need these things to level up your settlement, and the higher the settlement level you have, you tend to earn better perks and abilities. Upgrading settlements is essential but we suggest that you keep this as a priority and get things done before being submerged with a ton of quests.
Raids also bring great moments before and after completing them and are a focus of the game. There’s a genuine feeling of charging into battle with your fellow warriors and you can even upgrade your ship to instill fear into the hearts of your enemies.
Choices Have Consequences
Each choice that you make has a consequence so make sure that you think twice before making a decision in the game. If you’re filled up with anxiety and don’t know what to do you can always check out our guide about the choices and consequences in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla right here on Gamer Tweak.
From letting people live to elect an ealdorman, your choices will shape your experience so make sure that you do not blindly select anything just for the sake of selecting. Things unravel in mysterious ways in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and you should keep an eye on what you’re doing all the time.
Barred And Locked Doors Means You Can Still Enter
In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla you will come across barred doors more often than you like and while it seems that you cannot enter those places, there’s always an alternate route inside. All you have to do most of the time is to destroy the locking mechanism inside with an arrow and using your Odin’s Sight will show you exactly where to shoot.
Locked doors in the game present a different challenge as you won’t be able to enter those places without a key, but the good thing is the fact that you can find the room key nearby all the time. Be it Bureaus or any other locked door that you come across in the game. The key to it will be revealed as soon as you use Odin’s Sight. Make use of it often and it’ll make playing the game much easier.
Distrust And Restricted Areas
While these places seem like a no-no place to go to, if you’re careful you can just about go anywhere you desire in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Distrust areas in the game are where you will need to calm down a bit and walk instead of running. Pacing yourself in front of guards will alert them of your identity and they might start attacking you.
Restricted Areas in the game are places where they absolutely hate you and you should simply just hide and conceal your presence. Here you will be executed on sight and will result in a swarm of guards trying to cut your down in half. So be careful and you’re free to go.
Exploding Pots Are Your Best friends
When you get into the main storyline of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the game will introduce you to exploding pots, these things are like grenades and when directed at a weak wall or something similar will let you gain access inside. Check out our guide on how to use explosive pots right here.
Whenever you see a wall that is supposed to break but cannot be breached, look around and you’ll find some of these pots lying around. All you have to do is place them carefully and shoot them or just chuck them from a distance and this will open up a ton of avenues for you.
Skill Tree Is Vast
Skill Tree in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is divided into three parts, Bear, Crow, and Wolf. Each animal depicting a different playstyle. Make sure to check out all the skills and unlock the skills that complement how you play the game. If you’re a stealth player, you should check out the Wolf skill tree.
If you like ranged abilities, then Crow is the way you should go, and finally, for total destruction and carnage, check out the Bear skill tree as you will get a ton of melee-based skills. Skills seem endless and we recommend that you upgrade each and every skill in the game.
Check out Flyting
Flyting is a new concept to the world of Assassin’s Creed, in Valhalla instead of just providing players a break from all the raiding and pillaging it also serves to help increase the charisma of Eivor. You can get so much done with an added level of charisma.
All you have to do is lyrically joust with your opponent and while you get some sort of training into it, you can always check out all the answers to flyting if you’re unsure what to say in the battle right here on Gamer Tweak.
Health Regeneration Isn’t Like Always
Health does not magically restore in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and you will need to consume items to get your health back up to take on powerful enemies. Enemies range from ‘Easy’ to ‘OMG how am I supposed to kill this thing?’. It is wise to always stock up on items that will help you stay alive during battles.
There are plenty of items that you can use to regenerate your health. You can check out our guide on how to heal right here. Check the link above and you’ll get all the answers you’re seeking.
Exploration Is A Must
Ubisoft has given exploration a lot of emphasis and promotes doing so in the game. You never know what you’ll find while exploring the vast lands in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. All the kingdoms in England have a distinct look and feel to them.
Each district has a theme of its own and this personality helps to soak in the feeling of a difference of culture as well as other things. You can travel all the lands of Mercia and they will be completely different from that of Northumbria.
The more you explore, the more you will learn about the beauty of this magnificent game. We will keep updating this article with the list of things we think that people getting in the game should absolutely know before jumping in.
