How to Summon Spirits with Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring
To get Spirit Ashes to summon spirits in Elden Ring, you need to look all over The Lands Between. If you visit Witch Renna, she will give you Lone Wolf Ashes. Likewise, you will need to head over to Stormfoot Catacombs to get Wandering Noble Ashes. You also need to beat the Erdtree Burial Watchdog in Stormfoot Catacombs to get Noble Sorcerer Ashes.

You need to head over to the Church of Elleh and meet Witch Renna to get this bell. Before you do so, however, you need to speak to Melina.
The Spirit Calling Bell, coupled with enough of FP and Spirit Ashes, will give you the ability to summon spirits. Now that you have the Spirit Ashes, you need to give them a Consumable slot.

Where can you Summon spirits?
Go to an area in Elden Ring that supports the process of spirit summoning. You can generally summon spirits in areas that have a lot of enemies.
You will know you are in an area that supports summoning with the help of a purple icon that appears on the left of your screen. Until the moment this slot appears, you will notice that all your consumable slots are greyed out.
Once the purple icon makes itself visible, you can summon spirits by pressing the Use Item button. Doing so results in a quick animation where you see the spirits make themselves visible and surround you. Each of these spirits will have its own health bars, and they can cause damage to you during the course of the animation.
Once you summon a spirit, you will need to rest at a Site of Grace before you continue to summon more spirits again.
How to Dismiss Spirits
To dismiss spirits, you need to simply press the Use Item button again. Once you do so, you will receive a prompt asking you if you wish to send the spirits back to the beyond. Clicking on Yes will complete the process of dismissing the spirits.
