After achieving the milestone of selling more than 5 million copies in 11 days, Spider-Man 2 has unlocked an even better feat. Insomniac Games have now sold more than 6.1 Million copies of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 as of 11th December 2023, as revealed via the massive data breach caused by a ransomware group (via Resetera).
The leak revealed sales numbers of many PlayStation games (PS4 and PS5), and another document shows that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, released on October 20, 2023, reached 5 million sell-through units as of 30th October. This means that the game added more than a million unit sales at an astonishing speed, confirming the popularity of the hero and Spider-Man games as a whole.
This previous achievement was confirmed and announced by the official Twitter page of @insomniacgames on November 9, 2023:
“Woo! We’re incredibly honored to announce Marvel’s #SpiderMan2PS5 has sold over 5 MILLION COPIES! Thank you to our incredible community for supporting us and helping us reach this milestone! #BeGreaterTogether”
It was the best-selling game of October in the US and as of November 15, it was the 4th best-selling game of 2023. The best-selling game this year was Hogwarts Legacy, after which Call of Duty MW3 takes a spot, and then comes the Nintendo Switch exclusive The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is also the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios title in the 24 hours following its release, taking out God of War Ragnarok from the top spot. GOW: Ragnarok sold 5.1 million copies in its first week and Marvel’s Spider-Man sold 3.3 million copies in its first 3 days.
