Earlier, Sony announced that all Helldivers 2 players had to link their Steam account to a PlayStation Network account to continue playing the game. What was earlier a choice was turned into a mandatory action, with measures set in place from May 30th. However, there was a huge backlash from the fans, who did not appreciate this plan and voiced their distaste for Sony’s decision.
The surge of negative reviews and feedback has now forced them to backtrack on this decision, and there is no need for the mandatory linking of the accounts. Placing the business first before understanding the needs of the player base was never the right choice, and the fact that they took the measures in the first place might have left a lasting stain on Sony, as evident from the trolling on their announcement thread. Hopefully, this is the end of the matter and not merely a postponement of their plans.
Major Order Completed as Sony Backtracks on Helldivers 2 May 6 Update Plan
Helldivers 2 players have made their voices heard regarding Sony’s decision to link their PSN ID to Steam to play the game, which has caused them to backtrack. Sony confirmed via a tweet from the PlayStation Account: “The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will not be moving forward.” This is a huge win for players who would not want to create a PlayStation account just to play Helldivers 2.
Unfortunately, Arrowhead Game Studios has been dragged through this problem by no fault of their own. Nevertheless, now that the matter is settled, players can get back to playing Helldivers 2 without any issues.
