Nate the Hate is a content creator with a focus on video games and has some interesting predictions for Xbox Series X|S in 2024. As per a YouTube video/podcast featuring Modern Vintage Gamer (MVG), a critically acclaimed Xbox 1st party title will come to a competitor platform this year.
Here are two snippets from the conversation (Thanks, Reddit)
- “The title I am referring to was met with high critical acclaim, fans loved it, it was in the GOTY conversation the year it released. When the announcement comes I think it’s going to be met with a lot of excitement because this is a quality game.” (Timestamp 1)
- “Yes, Microsoft will be dabbling in bringing a 1st party game to a competitor platform in 2024. At least one game, I know of one, don’t know if there will be additional.” (Timestamp 2)
An Xbox First Party Title May Come to a Competitor Platform (Speculation)
Now this has fueled discussions about which game is being talked about. Some speculated that Pentiment on Switch is a possibility since it was nominated for the Game of the Year at the 23rd Game Developers Choice Awards and for the Xbox Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards 2023.
Others say it’s Psychonauts 2 for Switch. Psychonauts 2 was a GOTY nominee in the year of its release alongside Deathloop, It Takes Two, Metroid Dread, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Resident Evil Village.
Moreover, Psychonauts 2 is already available on PS4 apart from Xbox One, Series X|S, and PC. Bringing it to Nintendo Switch might be the next logical step for the game. Or it could be releasing on Switch 2 since it is predicted to arrive in 2024 with a possible $400 price tag. However, gamers say that Psychonauts 2 coming to Switch won’t be a surprising reveal and wouldn’t be worth mentioning as a prediction itself.
This brings some speculation towards Hi-Fi Rush. While it was not a contender for the actual GOTY award in 2023, since they said “GOTY conversation”, could it perhaps mean that they were a possible nominee in other categories? Hi-Fi Rush received multiple nominations this year under Best Art Direction, Best Score and Music, Best Audio Design, Innovation in Accessibility, and Best Action Game.
If Hi-Fi Rush indeed comes to a competing platform, it will be huge because it was one of Xbox’s crucial successes this year. Now, whether this speculation is true or not remains to be seen. We will keep you updated with any new developments.
