One of the companions that you will have to rescue in Baldur’s Gate 3 is Volo. Though he is not a playable companion, you can still earn rewards for saving him. Volo, your companion from the Bard class can be found at the start of the game. Though he won’t be joining your party, he can offer to help you with your parasite problem. This guide will show you how to find and save Volo from the Goblins in BG3.
How to Find Volo in Baldur’s Gate 3
You can meet Volo in the Sacred Pool at Druid’s Grove. He will be talking to a bear with his captor – Gribbo – keeping a watch. She is forcing Volo to perform for the goblins. If you try to interact with Volo, Gribbo and the goblins will be annoyed and eventually take the Bard off the stage and move him to a prison cell.
How to Rescue Volo in Baldur’s Gate 3
You can find Volo’s cell by walking up the right-side staircase next to Priestess Gut’s throne. Gribbo will be in the room with him so there is no way to free him without her or the other Goblins knowing. To rescue Volo in Baldur’s Gate, you will have to interact with Gribbo and use one of Ilithid Wisdom, Deception, or Intimidation checks on her. Doing so will make Gribbo hand over the key to Volo’s cell.
Note: Make sure to quick save before rescuing Volo in case of a Critical Failure as the Goblin camp may aggro on you.
Apart from the above options, you can also shut the door and kill Gribbo. However, this is quite risky as a Goblin frequently makes rounds into the room. So, if there is a loud commotion, you might end up fighting him and the other Goblins in the camp too. However, if you have a Rogue companion in your party, then you have a high chance of killing Gribbo stealthily. Remember to pick up the key to free Volo from his cell and quickly make your way out of the camp.
