Although it doesn’t seem like a fit companion, should you remove or destroy the brain in Baldur’s Gate 3 at the start? As you interact with the brain on Nautiloid, you realize you are talking to an Intellect Devourer, the Mindflayer minion who abducted you. With their fate in your hands, you can choose to either remove, destroy, or mutilate the brain. But should you spare or cripple the strange Mindflayer brain stuck within Myranth? And what are the consequences of all the choices? Check out our guide to find out if you should remove or destroy the brain in BG3.
Should You Remove, Destroy or Mutilate the Brain in Baldur’s Gate 3
Rather than mutilating or destroying it, you can remove the Brain in Baldur’s Gate 3 from Myranth’s skull if you are looking for a temporary ally. For that, you can roll the dice with Investigation or Dexterity checks. As soon as you remove the brain, you get a chance to cripple the Intellect Devourer by mutilating it to make it less dangerous. Or you can also choose to spare the creature. Once you free the Brain from the host’s skull, it will introduce itself as Us.
But if you choose to mutilate the Us Brain in BG3 with a Dexterity check and fail, it will attack you. But if you succeed in mutilating it with a 15 Difficulty Class Dexterity check, you will find Intellect devourer in a weaker form. We recommend sparing the brain as it transforms into a Follower helping you out with maximum health.
Despite the Brain aka Intellect devourer considered as a threat, it will serve you as an ally on the Nautiliod temporarily. If you chose to destroy or cripple the brain in BG3, it won’t serve you any benefits. Instead, you lose an ally with decent melee attacks up their nerves.
So, we leave the rest of the decision to you.
