Squalor is the condition of being extremely dirty and unpleasant, and it’s a major concern in Frostpunk 2 when your people aren’t living in good conditions. It can lead to disease, tension, and many other negative effects on your city and it must be handled as soon as possible. Here are some strategies to reduce Squalor in Frostpunk 2.

How to Decrease Squalor in Frostpunk 2

Specifically in terms of this game, Squalor can increase due to pollution, poor waste management, and a lack of materials for the demand. Let’s look at how you can tackle each of these issues.

Reduce Pollution

If there are too many factories, the pollution and dirt will lead to complaints. This will contribute towards increasing Squalor and so, you need to keep track of the amount of factories you have and remove some whenever you must. When you place Housing Districts near Industrial Districts, there will be some penalties too, so make sure you plan the city carefully.

Have Enough Materials

With the help of Extraction Districts at prime locations like iron deposits, you can keep getting Materials so that your city’s demands are met. The quantity you have will be shown on the menu at the top indicated by a cube symbol. You can also research specific sections of the Idea Tree like the Sawmill and make decisions regarding placement that will ensure buildings use fewer Materials. Overall, make sure to always keep an eye on Materials so that your city doesn’t live in Squalor due to a lack of them.

Research Filtration Towers

Open up the Idea Tree and under Resources, look for Filtration Towers which will have the Squalor icon. When you research this, you can unlock Moss-Filtration Tower or the Ventilation Tower and build it in your Housing Districts. The former will significantly decrease Squalor in Frostpunk 2 while the latter will greatly reduce it – both will unlock the “Rapid Filtration” District Ability.

Add Waste Management

After you have researched Filtration Towers, you can research Waste Management Facilities and set up a Waste Repurposing Facility or Waste Incineration Facility which will help reduce Squalor in your city.

These are some ways to effectively manage and lower Squalor in Frostpunk 2 to maintain the good health of your citizens.
