The console gaming community is eager to know about the release date of the PS6, and due to the document made public by UK’s Competition & Markets Authority, players may get an idea about when to expect the PlayStation 6.
The PlayStation 5 was first released on November 12, 2020. It’s been only two years since the release of the PS5 and rumors about the PS6 are already out. With the rapid advancement in gaming technology, gamers are always looking for what’s next. Moreover, those who bought the PS5 are worried about when their console will be outdated.
PS6 Release Date Rumors: When will it Launch?
If we go by the release trend of the PlayStation consoles, the PS6 will likely release in 2027. The PS3 was released in 2006, followed by PS4 in 2013, and the latest PS5 in 2020. Between each release date, there is a seven-year gap. So if we go by that pattern, we may see the debut of the new console by 2027.
However, we may also expect it to release a year earlier. In an interview with Game Informer, Masayasu Ito stated that due to the advancements in technology, the life cycle of newer consoles may be six-to-seven years.
Here’s what the Executive VP of Sony’s Hardware Engineering stated,
“Indeed, in the past, the cycle for a new platform was 7 to 10 years, but in view of the very rapid development and evolution of technology, it’s really a six to seven-year platform cycle. Then we cannot fully catch up with the rapid development of the technology, therefore our thinking is that as far as a platform is concerned for the PS5, it’s a cycle of maybe six to seven years.”
Coming to the CMA documents, a brief mention is made of Sony losing Activision’s titles by 2027, and by the time Sony is ready to release its new console. But we cannot confirm whether these are two separate events.
