Not only the PS5 can be optically customized, but the DualSense controller also offers this option. A video shows how one of the plastic covers can be removed. Sooner or later there should be optional parts for the new PS5 controller.
For the time being, the PS5 will only be sold as a model with white side panels, which is basically no problem. They can be easily removed and replaced with custom faceplates. How the switch works, Sony made it clear in the latest teardown video.
But the DualSense controller also offers the option of changing the appearance, even if the customization options are limited compared to the console. It is at least possible to remove the lower black part and replace it with another copy – for example with a different color. You don’t need a tool for this.
The removal of the plastic cover is shown in a video published by John Glasscock. In describing the video, he explains the following: “Here’s a secret about the PS5 DualSense controller. Did you know that the new PS5 controller can actually be customized? Also, the light bar can change different colors! It looks amazing.”
Behind the removable plastic cover of the DualSense controller are the microphone, the loudspeaker, the PlayStation button and the analog sticks, which can at least be adjusted with optional attachments.
It can be assumed that corresponding accessory products will be available in stores in the foreseeable future, either through Sony or through official third-party partners. As it has become clear in the past few days, companies should avoid producing the PS5 side panels or controller covers without first speaking to Sony. In one case, Sony forced some PS5 faceplate manufacturers to cease production.
The PS5 will release on November 12/19, 2020. Due to the increasing restrictions in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the first retailers are advising customers to pay for their consoles in advance so that they can be picked up from the stores in the event of a sharper lockdown.
