The race for the next-generation of console gaming is already underway and while Sony hasn’t revealed the design for the PlayStation 5, they just announced that Sony will be using a new type of controller called the DualSense controller taking a departure from the DualShock series.
The DualShock series of controllers have been around from the time of the PlayStation 2 and was revolutionary but in recent times there haven’t been many design changes to the iconic look and feel of it.
This all changes with the DualSense controller, for beginners, the biggest change is the departure of the monotone color scheme, Sony’s new controller has a dual theme of White and Black going on for it. This does make it look a bit futuristic.
The DualSense controller brings features like PS5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech that is supposed to give players a completely new aural feel to gaming and enhance it.
Sony has managed to remove the Share button and replace it with the Create button, this new feature should give gamers and streamers more option when it comes to content creation and sharing than ever seen before.
As it was reported earlier, the DualSense controller will feature haptic feedback, giving a different feel every time you react with a different atmosphere in the game, driving in the mud as opposed to the road with having a different feel and you will now have greater control over things like drawing a boy to shoot an arrow.
The new design also removes the large lightbar which the DualShock 4 controller featured, as it reacted to every different environment in the game, now the new light bar has been shifted to either side of the touch bar, giving it a subtle feel and look.
Sony Interactive Entertainment President & CEO Jim Ryanm added saying, “DualSense marks a radical departure from our previous controller offerings and captures just how strongly we feel about making a generational leap with PS5. The new controller, along with the many innovative features in PS5, will be transformative for games – continuing our mission at PlayStation to push the boundaries of play, now and in the future. To the PlayStation community, I truly want to thank you for sharing this exciting journey with us as we head toward PS5’s launch in Holiday 2020. We look forward to sharing more information about PS5, including the console design, in the coming months.”
Sony has considered adding a microphone in the controller itself, giving players the option to talk directly through the controller without the need for a pair of headphones, Sony still suggests to having a pair if you are going to spend a lot of time gaming.
This design for the DualSense controller is a great way to estimate that the PlayStation 5 console too will sport a dual-tone color scheme to match the controller. It just remains to be seen when Sony releases the design of their new console.
Sony has still kept the familiar look by adapting it to the new generational demands and a view to building on something that was loved and cherished by people all over the world. This makes the wait for the reveal of the PlayStation 5 even more exciting. You can read more about it right here.
