You can buy pets in the game only through Van, a traveling merchant. But before you can get pets from him, you have to unlock him. Once you do it, you can purchase dogs, cats, capybaras and penguins. Let’s take a look at how you can unlock him and get pets in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town.
How to Unlock Van and his Pet Stall?
The first step you should do is meet the Harvest Goddess. We have a guide on how to summon her and the process involves giving her gifts. You have to make your way to her location next to the Spring Mine and give her an offering to please her. That’s how this divine being will appear. Doing this thirty times will unlock Van but you need to keep track of your gift count because Van will not come immediately.
He will visit your farmhouse on the first sunny Wednesday after you complete 30 gifts. After speaking to him, you can go to the Inn to buy items every Wednesday. This particular shop will be open from 8 am to 9 pm and will be on the second floor of the Inn. You will get Copper, Gold, Mithril, Record Player and more such items there.
The pet stall, though, will be open in Rose Plaza on the 15th of every month. The timings will be from Noon to 5:30 pm on sunny days. Yes, this sunny weather condition is important. Plus, the pet that can be bought will depend on the season. Here’s what you can expect as per the season:

The number of hearts shown in front of the pet’s photo in the pop-up menu will indicate the Friendship level. Go to the Main menu > Relationships > Pets to see this. You can raise it by playing with them, talking to them etc. Primarily, you have to show them that you care about them and your Friendship level will keep growing. If you wish, you can give some Pet treats as well but it is not mandatory.
