The Night Staff is a special item added in Grow a Garden’s Lunar Glow event, which guarantees extra Moonlit mutations during the night cycle. Without it, naturally occurring mutations will be much less, slowing down your progression of the event questline. Many players are wondering where to find it and how it works. It’s not part of the Gear shop—here’s where you can actually obtain a Moon staff.
How to Get the Night Staff in Grow a Garden
The Night staff has to be placed in your garden (it offers six uses each night), and it automatically selects random crops to mutate. It can be obtained through the Lunar Glow event by trading Moonlit fruits for Lunar Points at the Wise Old Owl.
Night Staff functions only during the nighttime and once placed anywhere in your garden before nightfall, it uses moonlight to mutate one crop per use, regardless of proximity to the staff’s location.
To unlock the Night Staff, players must collect Moonlit fruits during the event and feed them to the Wise Old Owl at the center of the map. Each batch of fruits earns Lunar Points, and at specific point thresholds (40, 110, 250, and 360), players receive Night Staff items.
So, before the night phase begins, select the Staff from your inventory and place it in your garden. It will automatically activate when night starts, using all six channels over the course of the night to apply mutations to random crops.
Each use of this item transforms one standard crop into its Moonlit variant, greatly increasing the output of Moonlit fruits that can be traded back for more Lunar Points. This gives you a faster progression through the event’s reward tiers.
Things to note:
- Place Night Staff near your fastest-growing or most valuable crops to maximize the benefit of each mutation.
- Deploy the staff just before the night cycle begins to ensure all six mutations occur in one night.
- Combine Night Staff usage with mutation-boosting pets or other event items to further increase your Moonlit fruit output.
- After its max uses, it will despawn, so make sure to avoid using it on lower-tier fruits and try not to leave the game while the night event is over. That’s because it’s currently unclear whether the item despawns if you leave or only when it mutates a fruit 6 times.
