2023 was a phenomenal year for the Nintendo Switch, with record-breaking titles like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime Remastered, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder. These back-to-back releases of highly anticipated games made players wonder what is in store for 2024. And will the new games be as good?
Don’t worry; 2024 promises to be even more exciting for Switch owners, with a diverse lineup of games catering to all tastes. From long-awaited sequels and reboots to surprising new franchises on Nintendo, here are the most anticipated and best new upcoming Switch games in 2024.
Nintendo’s Most Anticipated and Best Upcoming Switch Games 2024
Nintendo Switch fans have much to look forward to in 2024, with many exciting games set to release. Here are some of the most anticipated games that are expected to be released in our Best Upcoming Switch Games 2024 list:
Hades II (TBA 2024/2025)
After the amazing game Hades, Supergiant Games is making a sequel called Hades II, which will be epic. We don’t know exactly when it comes out, but just knowing it’s happening is awesome.
Hades 2 is primarily a Greek mythology-based rogue-like dungeon crawler. This means you battle through ever-changing dungeons, facing waves of enemies and challenging bosses. Each run is unique, thanks to procedural generation and various weapon and ability combinations.
In Hades, you played Zagreus, the son of Hades who tried to escape the Underworld (a tough job!). This time, you’ll be Melinoë, Hades’s super cool daughter and sister of Zagreus. She’s got a big challenge: the Titan of Time called Chronos escaped his prison in the Underworld and started an all-out war against Mount Olympus from there. It’s up to Melinoë to stop him. Think epic battles and tricky puzzles, and explore super secret parts of the Underworld!
So, can we expect Hades 2 on Switch in 2024 or 2025? It’s too early to say for sure. Supergiant is a studio focused only on one game for its development cycle, and their priority right now is getting Hades 2 out on PC in early access to gather feedback and polish the game. But the original Hades was a huge success, and there’s a demand for it on Switch. Supergiant has a good relationship with Nintendo, having released their first two games, Bastion and Transistor, before Hades on Switch.
Supergiant polish promised top-notch visuals, gameplay, and story, even better than the original. They have a track record for excellent games. So, while you might have to wait a bit longer to play Hades 2 on your Switch, one thing’s for sure: if you enjoyed the original Hades, Hades 2 has the potential to be an even more thrilling and magical journey.
Hollow Knight: Silksong (TBA 2024)
Hollow Knight: Silksong is one of the most highly anticipated titles of 2024 (and beyond!). It’s the sequel to the critically acclaimed Metroidvania masterpiece, Hollow Knight. It promises to build upon everything fans love while adding exciting new features and exploring a vast, beautiful, new, interconnected kingdom named Pharloom.
While Silksong introduces a brand new kingdom, you’ll also encounter familiar sights and characters from Hallownest, adding a layer of nostalgia and intrigue for established fans. Players will be taking on the role of Hornet, the princess-protector of Hallownest and a formidable warrior in her own right. Her nimble acrobatics and deadly needle weapon offer a fresh gameplay experience compared to the Knight from the first game.
Hornet’s signature tools allow her to swing through the air, grapple enemies, and explore hidden areas. We can expect a mix of familiar Metroidvania mechanics with new twists, hidden paths, challenges, and expansions encouraging multiple playthroughs, just like the first game.
Whether Hollow Knight: Silksong will be released in 2024 is yet to be confirmed. Although there’s no official confirmation from Team Cherry, the developers, several reasons suggest a 2024 release possibility. In late 2023, Team Cherry stepped up their communication, hinting at progress and promising updates closer to release. This suggests they might be nearing completion.
The game’s immense popularity and years of waiting create a strong incentive for Team Cherry to capitalize on the momentum. A 2024 release would satisfy eager fans and capitalize on renewed excitement. However, its removal from “day one Xbox games coming in 2024” on Game Pass could mean a later release window, maybe even 2025. I hope the game releases in 2024, as I can’t wait anymore. The anticipation is killing me.
Metroid Prime 4 (TBA)
Metroid Prime 4 is a highly anticipated upcoming action-adventure game for the Nintendo Switch and the sequel to the critically acclaimed Metroid Prime trilogy. The original Metroid Prime trilogy is considered one of the best game series ever, and fans have been eagerly waiting for a new entry for over 15 years.
It will be the first Metroid game in the main series to use a first-person perspective since Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. This is a return to the series’ roots, which many fans have been hoping for. Not much is known about the story of Metroid Prime 4, but the teaser trailer at E3 2017 was very intriguing. It suggests that the game will be darker and more atmospheric than previous entries in the series.
Unfortunately, there’s no official confirmation on the release date of Metroid Prime 4 yet. While there’s speculation and rumors, we can’t be sure when it’ll be out until Nintendo makes an announcement. But a gaming insider claims the game is nearing completion and could launch on Switch sometime in summer 2024. This would make it one of the last major titles before Nintendo’s next console release.
But based on statements from developers and speculation surrounding the game’s development history, many in the industry currently expect a broader window of 2024-2026.
Princess Peach: Showtime! (March 22, 2024)
Princess Peach: Showtime! is an upcoming action-adventure game for the Nintendo Switch that stars Princess Peach, marking her first starring role since Super Princess Peach. The game is set to be released in North America on March 22, 2024.
The game is themed after a stage play in the Sparkle Theater, where Princess Peach and Stella team up to reclaim the theater from Grape and the Sour Bunch.
The game’s plot begins with a Toad receiving a flier advertising a show at the Sparkle Theater. Princess Peach and some Toads decide to attend the show, but the wicked Grape and the Sour Bunch suddenly invade and take over the theater—Princess Peach teams up with the theater’s guardian, Stella, to stop them.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (TBA 2024)
The beloved GameCube classic, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, is getting a stunning remake for the Nintendo Switch. Announced during the September 14th, 2023 Nintendo Direct, this charming remake follows our papery hero Mario as he embarks on a quest unlike any other.
The Thousand-Year Door was a revolution in the franchise with a darker, more gripping plot that many fans love to this day. Here, Mario races against the clock (and the nefarious X-Nauts) to collect seven Crystal Stars.
But Mario won’t be going solo! His side gets him a crew of awesome partners. Each brings their special skills, ready to help you solve puzzles, bash baddies, and uncover their heartwarming backstories.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong (February 16, 2024)
Upcoming Mario vs. Donkey Kong for Nintendo Switch is a delightful puzzle platformer that reimagines the classic Game Boy Advance title with modern visuals and new features. This is the first Mario vs. Donkey Kong game on Switch, and it’s been almost nine years since the last one! It’s like a long-lost adventure found its way back home; this time, it’s looking sharper than ever.
Here, you help Mario through increasingly challenging levels filled with obstacles, traps, and enemies, all while rescuing the kidnapped Mini-Marios from Donkey Kong.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft (February 14, 2024)

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (January 18, 2024)
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is the first major series entry since 2010. This 2.5D side-scroller, launching on Nintendo Switch on January 18th, 2024, puts you into the role of a new warrior named Sargon. A member of the immortal clan, Sargon faces a daunting mission: rescue the kidnapped Prince Ghassan from the cursed city of Mount Qaf.
Sargon’s parkour skills come in handy with jumps, slides, and lightning-fast air dashes to explore a sprawling, interconnected world riddled with hidden secrets and shortcuts reminiscent of classic Metroidvania adventures.
Ubisoft Montpellier, renowned for the beloved Rayman series, is behind this platformer. With development spanning three and a half years, a melodious soundtrack by Gareth Coker and Iranian composer Mentrix adds depth to this vibrant Persian world. This will be one of the good-looking games to get a Switch release this year.
Jujutsu Kaisen Cursed Clash (February 2, 2024)
Jujutsu Kaisen Cursed Clash is an action-fighting game based on the popular manga series Jujutsu Kaisen. The game will be released on February 2, 2024. The game will allow players to team up with their favorite Jujutsu Kaisen characters and battle each other in 2-on-2 matches. Players can defeat their opponents by using each character’s unique Jujutsu abilities and Domain Expansions.
