Steam’s Winter Sale 2023 has some amazing discounted prices for games, but there’s one title that has 33K players in-game at the time of writing, but only costs $0.99 and that’s Left 4 Dead 2. Left 4 Dead 2 has a higher player count than many recent games

Left 4 Dead 2 is still popular, despite being released around 14 years ago. While exact numbers can fluctuate, Left 4 Dead 2 consistently maintains a healthy online community. It regularly sees several thousand players concurrently on Steam and can climb into the tens of thousands during peak hours. As per Steam Charts, L4D2’s 24-hour peak had 44,811 players which is more than Starfield‘s 14,863 and Diablo 4‘s 24h peak of 11,138.

Replayability

The core co-op zombie-slaying action of Left 4 Dead 2 is addictive and even Back 4 Blood, which is the spiritual successor, isn’t able to reach its player count. The dynamic AI Director keeps each playthrough fresh, the four original campaigns are still incredibly fun, and the vast amount of user-created content adds even more replayability.

Mods

Left 4 Dead 2 has loads of mods that have kept the game interesting even after years. This allowed players to create and experience new maps, campaigns, game modes, and even graphical upgrades. Mods are one of the reasons why the game still caters to a wide range of players and their preferences.
