Totally surprisingly, Nintendo has announced Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, a new game set 100 years before The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
The title is developed together with Koei Tecmo, and will be released on Nintendo Switch on November 20. Pre-orders should open shortly, and the digital bonus is a ladle that Link can use as a weapon, or merge with other weapons to boost his stats.
As reported by the official page of the game, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will support a maximum of 2 players, and will be playable in all modes of Nintendo Switch, TV, Tabletop, and Handheld. The file size of the game is 15.6GB.
In the announcement trailer, The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma and Koei Tecmo Games’ Hyrule Warriors producer Yosuke Hayashi talk about how this project originated and show the game’s first video.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity picks up the action-packed gameplay that fans enjoyed in Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors. Based on over-the-top combos and special abilities, it creates quick and strategic battles, perfect for players looking for a visceral action game with strong references to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. In addition, players will be able to immerse themselves in a compelling story that details the most dramatic events of the great calamity.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is heavily inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in more ways than the graphics, and offers the ability to play as numerous characters from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, including Link and Zelda. In addition to facing hordes of enemies, players will also have to solve environment-based puzzles, unlock weapons and abilities, craft items from the materials they collect, visit shops to purchase new equipment, and use the power of the Sheikah tablet, which fans of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will recognize immediately.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will be released on Nintendo Switch on November 20th.
