Items can be really helpful as you will often face tough opponents which come from various planets to battle.
You play not only as Goku but a host of other characters as well and though it is not always possible to upgrade every character at the same time, you can always use items in battle to help you out.
Using items in battles will help you heal quickly without needing to access the main menu every time you want to quickly replenish a bit of health lost while fighting someone.
All you need to do is open the main menu by pressing the Options button on PlayStation 4 and the Menu button on Xbox One. Once the main menu is open you can select the items option and enter it.
From there you can assign whatever healing item you wish to have while in battle which will often come in handy. Once you are set with the type of item you wish to have, all you need to do is press the Square button on PS4 or the X button on Xbox One.
You can even assign the item to a face button for a much easier experience but this is entirely up to the players and you can customize it any way you wish to do.
