Diablo 4 has received a massive overhaul along with the Season 6 and Vessel of Hatred DLC, and it has brought along new difficulty tiers. Earlier, the difficulty levels were based on World Tier I (Adventurer), II (Veteran), III (Nightmare) and IV (Torment). But now, we get more tiers starting from Normal, Hard, Expert, Penitent to Torment I through IV. Here’s how you can unlock the Torment tiers in Diablo 4.
How to Unlock Torment Difficulty in Diablo 4
When you start the game, you can choose between the Normal difficulty (if you’re new to Diablo games), or Hard, if you are already experienced. The difference lies in the amount of gold and XP received, and the quality and quantity of drops. Plus, the monsters and bosses get more powerful, your resistance will suffer and your armor is reduced.
In Torment I, you get -250 Armor and -25% All Resistances, which increases to -500, -50% (Torment II), -750 Armor and -75% All Resistances (Torment III) and -1000 Armor and -100% All Resistances (Torment IV).
You have to then work on upgrading your build to manage your survival in this leveled-up difficulty. If you’re currently at Normal, Hard or Expert difficulty, you can get to Penitent by reaching Level 50.
However, the next tiers will be locked in Diablo 4 and you need to grind The Pit to unlock higher Torment tiers. Unlike before, where you had to complete Capstone dungeons, this time, they are tied to The Pit which is a timed dungeon.
- For starters, you won’t have The Pit unlocked, and you can do so by reaching level 60.
- Then complete Pit Tier 20 along with mastery to unlock Torment 1.
- Next, you need to upgrade your build and complete Pit Tier 35 to unlock Torment 2.
- Complete Pit Tier 50 to get to Torment 3.
- And finally complete Pit Tier 65 to unlock Torment 4.
What is The Pit?
If you’re new to Diablo 4, it’s crucial to know that the Pit of Artificers in Diablo 4 is a challenging endgame activity introduced in Season 4. It’s a timed dungeon run where you must slay monsters and defeat a final boss as quickly as possible.
To enter the Pit, you need Runeshards, which are obtained from various endgame activities like Nightmare Dungeons, Whispers, World Bosses, and Helltides.
As you defeat enemies, you fill a progression bar. Once the bar is full, you face the final boss. The Pit has multiple tiers, each with increasing difficulty and better rewards. Completing the Pit rewards Masterwork materials, which you can use to upgrade your endgame items.
