How To Marry In Skyrim

Read this guide to learn how to get married in Skyrim.

Getting married in Skyrim is one of the many things you can do apart from the usual giant-slaying action that is such a specialty of the game. You can choose to marry and settle down with a family in a cottage if you want to. However, since this is not a very well-known option, a lot of players probably do not know how to do it. This guide, however, will explain all you need to know about marriage in Skyrim

How to Get Married in Skyrim?

In order to get married in Skyrim, you need to get your hands on the Amulet of Mara. After you do so, you need to speak to Maramal in Riften.

You can get the Amulet of Mara by looking around the game for them. There is a possibility of even finding them inside your inventory. The easiest way to get the Amulet is by speaking to Maramal. He is a Redguard priest from the Cult of Mara. You can find him at the Bee and Barb or at the Temple of Mara. You can simply buy the Amulet for 200 Gold from him. Once you do so, you can begin to speak to him about marriage.

Once you get the Amulet from Maramal and speak to him about marriage, you are ready to propose. To do so, you need to approach the NPC you wish to marry. Once you do so, they will give you a quest. The said quest can differ according to NPCs, so keep this in mind. Once you complete the quest, you will be able to marry them. Once the NPC accepts your proposal, you need to go back to Riften to plan your wedding.

To plan your wedding, you will need to speak to Maramal and plan the ceremony. Since Maramal will not give you a specific time for the ceremony, you will need to make sure you do not miss it. To do so, we recommend you stay inside the Temple of Mara and wait for a period of 1 hour at a time. When doing so, also make sure to select Attend your Wedding Ceremony as your active quest. You will need to keep waiting for hourly periods until you find a white quest marker above Maramal’s head. As soon as you see this marker, head towards the altar. Doing so will result in Maramal beginning the marriage ceremony. During this ceremony, you might even chance upon some old friends in attendance.

Once the ceremony completes, your marriage will become official. Your spouse will now ask you where the two of you plan to live. You can now choose between any of the homes that you already own. Additionally, if you wish to, you can also build your own house with the Hearthstone DLC. If you wish to, you can also move in with your spouse.

If you do not make it to the Temple in time for your marriage, you need not worry. You can always request Maramal for another ceremony. Once he accepts, you will need to wait for a period of one day. Maramal will conduct the ceremony the next day in the temple. You can, however, avoid this situation completely by preferring the one-hour method you read about earlier in this guide. I mean, you do not really want to miss your own wedding, do you?

And that’s it. If you follow all of these simple steps in this guide, you will be able to marry the NPC of your choice in Skyrim. What follows will be a life of comfort and bliss. And now that you know all about marriage, take a look at our guide on How to Use Restoration Potion Glitch in Skyrim.
