IV values of a Pokemon determine how strong they are, these values aren’t visible but they have a direct relation with the base stats of your Pokemon. There are ways in which you can check the IV of a Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield and this guide will show you how to unlock IV Checker in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

How to get IV checker in Pokemon Sword and Shield

There are a few steps that you need to follow before you jump straight right in to check the IV of any Pokemon. The most important aspect here is that you will need to complete the main story of Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Once you do that you will need to go to the Battle Tower in Wyndon and once there go to the far north of the map and take on the challenge.

You will have to keep on doing this until you reach level 4 and once you do you will be given the IV checker. You will need approximately six wins in order to reach level four.

How to check IV

After you have the IV Checker in Pokemon Sword and Shield, you will have to open up the Pokemon box, find the Pokemon you want to check the IV of and press +. This will give you detailed stats of the Pokemon you wish to know.

How to understand IV stats

IV stats are not defined clearly, instead, you will have to understand the value assigned to each description. For a better understanding check the below ranges of the IV stats:

  • No Good: 0
  • Decent: 1- 10
  • Pretty Good: 11 – 20
  • Very Good: 21 – 29
  • Fantastic: 30
  • Best: 31
