In this survival city-builder game, you face a variety of challenges like managing the city’s resources, researching new technologies, development, and of course, ensuring the survival of your citizens. If there’s a tension crisis in Frostpunk 2 that goes out of hand and reaches an uncontrollable level, you will see chaos like destruction, citizens fighting each other, and more. The city will fall if you don’t calm tensions and restore order and here’s how you can do it.
What is Tension in the game?
Tension comes into the picture when your citizens face troubles like Cold, Hunger, Disease, Crime, Squalor, and Fervour.
In a nutshell, you have to manage the levels of these factors to ensure that your City doesn’t shut down. Players will be able to see the level of tension at the bottom of the screen and the more it fills with black liquid, the more dangerous it gets.
When you see notifications like ‘Tension greatly increased’ due to notable crime, or marginally increased by minor disease, focus on the issues as soon as possible and work towards decreasing it for the betterment of your people. If you don’t, it will be game over.

How to Reduce Tension in Frostpunk 2
Prioritizing the basic needs of your citizens will help you decrease tension levels in Frostpunk 2. We will be covering ways to handle the individual issues in separate guides, and we’ll link them right here.
Cold
To reduce cold, you need heat generation by building buildings like Coal mines, Advanced coal mines, Geothermal plants, Pumpjacks, Charcoal Plants and more. To combat extreme cold, research Ideas that reduce the Heat demands like Housing Insulation, Food Energy Efficiency, Heat Dispatcher in the Idea Tree of Heating. Pass laws that help with providing Heat to districts, get Generator upgrades, etc.
Hunger
Ensure a steady supply to prevent starvation. This can be difficult in this harsh world but absolutely a priority to keep your people healthy. You can solve this problem by setting up a Food district on Fertile soil, sending out Scouts on the hunt for food, and passing laws that help manage hunger.
Fervour
Fervour increases when a faction isn’t happy with how things are going and they start to riot which can lead to civil war. To fix this conflict, you must deradicalize a faction and this can be done by using a Prison to put protestors in, Project Funding or using the Deradicalize option in the game. Maintaining a high trust level will be useful and prevent protests.
Disease
Provide access to crucial buildings like Hospitals, Pharmaceuticals and Emergency Medical Hubs while also passing laws to help prevent Contagion, providing Treatment, Birthing Programme, Funerals etc.
Squalor
Reduce pollution in your districts to decrease Squalor in the game and it is connected to Disease in your people. You can solve it by focusing on Materials scarcity via Maintenance Hubs, building more Extraction Districts, improving efficiency of Production and researching Buildings that help you get a surplus.
Crime
A scarcity will lead to your people resorting to crime and that’s what you need to work on to ensure your city dwellers are safe. Goods scarcity can be fixed by building more Industrial districts, expanding them, building factories, and boosting production efficiency. Additionally, buildings such as Prisons and Watchtowers will help keep the crime rates in check.
Researching Ideas that provide help with these factors is recommended. It’s a lot to handle which makes this a challenging game, but if you’re up for the challenge, it can prove to be fun.
