The Chubby Chipmunk is an upcoming rare pet expected to arrive with the Chubby Chipmunk Event. Not everything is known about this rare pet yet, but here’s what we do know.
What is the Chubby Chipmunk Pet in Grow a Garden?
One of the defining features of the Chubby Chipmunk is its automatic feeding behavior. Every 4 minutes and 58 seconds, the pet will eat one fruit from your garden and gain 0.009 KG of weight. Notably, this automatic feeding ignores fruits you have marked as “favorited” and also skips single-harvest fruit types.
In addition, when you manually feed the Chubby Chipmunk a fruit, there’s a 15.10% chance it will gain 0.01 KG. What’s interesting is that mutations on the fed fruit increase that probability: every mutation adds 3.29% to that chance. So a highly mutated fruit gives you a better shot at boosting its weight via manual feeding.
The pet has a listed hunger value of 50,000.
The Chubby Chipmunk Event is the event through which this pet will be introduced (Update 1.25.1) and this will also bring new seeds, pets, event gears, and quality of life changes.
Some of the event’s seed offerings include:
- Acorn Squash Seed
- Hazelnut Seed
- Peanut Seed
- Filbert Nut Seed
- Persimmon Seed
- Acorn Seed
In terms of pets, the event is stated to feature not just the Chubby Chipmunk, but variants like Farmer Chipmunk and Idol Chipmunk, plus the Chinchilla.
The event runs from October 4, 2025 to October 11, 2025 and you can get notified by clicking on ‘Notify Me’ on the game’s event section.
Things you can do now
While the pet isn’t live at the time of writing this article, here are some things you can do to get ready:
Stock up on high-mutation fruits
Since feeding mutated fruits gives better chances of weight gain, start working on getting fruits mutated.
Avoid favoriting fruits you want the pet to eat
The pet’s auto-eating ignores favorited fruits, so if you have some you want preserved, use the “favorite” tag wisely.
Prepare garden layout and capacity
Make sure your garden has space for the fruit types that the pet might prefer, especially multi-harvest fruits (which aren’t ignored by auto-eating).
Watch for the Update 1.25.1 release
Once the event goes live, check the patch notes and event shop to see how exactly the Chubby Chipmunk is obtained (egg, token shop, etc.).
Track fruit mutation bonuses when it’s live
Since mutation adds to feeding success, experiment with feeding different fruits to note which ones give the best weight gain.
