Is there going to be a Ghost of Tsushima 2?
As of today, there is no official release date yet announced for Ghost of Tsushima 2. In April 2022, Sucker Punch announced that they have stopped working on further patches and updates for Ghost of Tsushima and the multiplayer expansion Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, as the studio shifted their resources to other projects. Now, what these other projects are, isn’t clear yet.
Before Ghost of Tsushima, Sucker Punch Productions worked on Infamous games back-to-back right from 2009 to 2014. Previously, they worked on Sly Cooper games consecutively. If this aligns with their work pattern, Ghost of Tsushima 2 might be next in the pipeline.
Is Ghost of Tsushima 2 development confirmed?
While rumors are going around that Sucker Punch Productions is currently working on Ghost of Tsushima 2, there has been no confirmation from Sony or the devs. However, job listings posted by the developer indicate that the game may just be underway (Thanks, GameRant).
Eagle-eyed fans have noticed that job listings posted on the official website showed vacancies that required the potential Narrative Writer employee to have knowledge of feudal Japanese history and the ability to write stories based on it.
Another vacancy asked for experience working on an open-world or third-person action game, and there was one more that looked to recruit someone who “must have played Ghost of Tsushima and understand its core gameplay systems.” All of these hints point towards the sequel potentially being under development.
While the previous positions have been filled, at the time of writing this article, there’s a job listing for “DESIGN – Technical Gameplay Designer” which also asks for experience working on an open-world or 3rd person action game.
Ghost Of Tsushima 2 Release Date Might Align with the Movie Release?
In case you missed the news earlier, a live-action Ghost Of Tsushima movie by John Wick director Chad Stahelski is also coming to cinemas! In November 2023, the director confirmed that the script was ready and that production would start soon.
Speaking to Screen Rant, the director said this about the upcoming Ghosts of Tsushima movie, “We have a script, we’re very close to getting our s–t together on that, as well. Development is always tricky, it’s studios, it’s strikes, availabilities, and scouting. You have to will things into existence. I think the two things that I am closest and most interested in are Highlander and Ghost of Tsushima. Both amazing, amazing properties, the story of Ghost is, also, one of my favorite properties of all time.”
The movie was first announced via Deadline in March 2021 and now that we have an update in 2023, many are speculating that the Ghosts of Tsushima movie might release in 2025. If Ghosts of Tsushima 2 decides to capitalize on that momentum to potentially boost sales, then the game might release in 2025 too. 2024 seems to be too early for a release and Sucker Punch will ensure enough time for development and polishing.
