Although you might have already guessed it, you cannot use the sea you crash land onto as a source of water. Fortunately, you do get a GPS that you can pull out using M and then look for a river inland that will signify fresh water. Now, simply interact with the water using E and you will be able to get rid of the You Are Thirsty prompt in Sons of the Forest.

Since you cannot collect water early on in the game, you should build your base around the river. After sometime, you will learn how to filter and collect water for your base. It will be simple to drink water in he game after that.

One of the main uses of water is Stamina and hence without it, you won’t be able to run or pretty much complete most tasks in the game. Do note that the game won’t allow you to drink water while holding a spear or other weapons. So make sure you are not holding them while you try to drink water from the river in Sons of the Forest.
