There are a ton of characters in Genshin, so it is only natural that you will want to unlock them all. But the problem is getting them in this game isn’t as simple as just playing the game. While there are only 3 ways to get them, the mechanics that surround it can confuse a lot of players. So in this guide check out all the ways you can get new characters in Genshin Impact.
How to Get New Characters in Genshin Impact
There are effectively only three ways to get new characters in Genshin Impact. The main method is using Wishes on Banners to get characters. Aside from that there are various events that happen with each update of the game. Some of these events can give you some limited-time activities to unlock a particular character. Finally, you can also buy characters using Masterless Starglitter in the Starglitter Exchange shop. So here are them all:
Getting from Banners – Unlock New Characters in Genshin
There are 4 different Banners where you can use Wish to get characters. These banners are:
- Beginners’ Wish: It is available for only the first 20 Wishes. You are guaranteed to unlock Noelle from this Banner.
- Wanderlust Invocation: This banner is not event exclusive and will always be available to the player. Making pulls from this banner you have a chance to unlock the following characters:
- Jean
- Qiqi
- Tighnari
- Keqing
- Mona
- Diluc
- The above was just the list of 5-star characters. You also have a chance to get 4-star characters from here. And this banner also lets you pull different 5,4, and 3-star weapons that the game has to offer.
- Character Event Banners: There are two of these Banners that change with updates. These Banners feature one 5-star character and three 4-star characters.
- Weapon Event Banner: These Banners give players the chance to pull the Signature weapons of the characters in the game.
You will need Primogems, Intertwined Fate, or Acquaint Fate for making wishes. Primogems are common for all banners, but the latter two are banner-specific. Then you also have Genesis Crystal that you can purchase using real money, which you can then convert to Primogems.
Getting Characters from Events
There are instances where the game gives you events to unlock characters. It doesn’t happen very frequently, but here are some examples of it:
- Barbara: You can unlock her by completing Baptism of Song event
- Xiangling: You can get her by clearing Floor 3, Chamber 3 of the Spiral Abyss.
- Collei: You could get her by completing the Graven Innocence event. This is not possible at the time of writing this guide.
So there is a slight chance game might bring such events for some characters in the future. Aside from these 3 characters, you can also unlock Amber, Kaeya, and Lisa from progressing the Prologue chapter.
Buying Characters using Masterless Starglitter
Finally, one last method is buying characters using Masterless Starglitter. You get this currency if you pull characters that you already own. After collecting enough of Masterless Starglitter. You can go to the Starglitter Exchange tab in Paimon’s Bargains and purchase a character of your preference that is available at that moment.
