Regarding new mechanics in Hades 2, you will want to get yourself Shadows. Its in-game description says it is “Mostly used with incantations involving soul and defiance.” But it doesn’t come unlocked as soon as you start playing. Rather, you need to progress the story a bit. But worry not; the recipe for it is quite easy, and we will look at all the resources you will need.
How to Get Shadows in Hades 2
To extract shadows, you need the Shadow Extraction alchemical recipe. Unlike other resources, you can’t find it randomly on stages or get it as a drop from enemies. Instead, you have to use magic or rituals to obtain it.
- You should start by progressing the story until you learn that Olympus wants your help. Hecate will then give you the Shadow Extraction alchemy spell.
- Next, farm the these ingredients:
- Ash x30
- Psyche x30
- Fate Fabric x3
- Ash and Psyche can be obtained by clearing your encounters in Erebus and the areas ahead. Fate Fabric can only be purchased from the Wretched Broker in exchange for Bones. If you have played Hades, you can think of these currencies as similar to Gemstones.
- So make sure during your encounters, at least in the early games, you collect as much Ash, Psyche, and Bones as possible. You can exchange Bones for Ash and Psyche, not just Fate Fabric. They cost as follows:
- 1x Ash: 15 Bones
- 5x Psyche: 30 Bones
- 1x Fate Fabric: 60 Bones
- After collecting all 3 ingredients after your run, interact with the Cauldron.
- Here, choose the Alchemy tab and do the Shadow Extraction spell.
- You now get 1 Shadow.
That’s all about how Shadows work in Hades 2. However, this is the only resource that you can get, be sure to also check out how to get Nectar as that is something you can offer to NPCs and Gods to increase your affinity with them!
