Soon after starting out in the game, you will feel the need to get more workforce in Frostpunk 2 for various tasks that are crucial for your city’s survival. Be it resource gathering, building, exploration, and basically everything else you need for life’s challenges in extreme weather, you will need a team of workers. If you overwork them or they are unable to work, your city will come to a standstill. You won’t be able to Frostbreak as well.
There are multiple ways to increase your active workforce in Frostpunk 2 and in this guide, we’ve got the list of things you can do.
How to Increase Your Active Workforce in Frostpunk 2
Explore
Make sure you have built a Logistics District and set Frostland Teams to explore the Frostland. Look for areas with communities in it, because that’s how you can get some help increasing your active workforce in Frostpunk 2.
Reduce the Assigned Percentage of Workers
If your Food District has 100% workforce assigned and you’re not running low on this resource, you can reduce a % (from the pop-up) to get some extra workers for other tasks.
Research Ideas and Pass Laws
The next option is to research specific Ideas from the Idea tree related to workforce. For instance, Liberated Youth will increase Trust slightly and unlocks the ‘Youth Employment Programme’ City Ability that increases the City’s Workforce. However, it will reduce Heatstamps Income.
There’s also Dutiful Youth, which unlocks the ‘Youth Volunteer Duty’ ability that boosts workforce, but decreases Trust and Crime. When this law is passed, click on your Central District and click on the button for Youth Volunteer Duty which requires all youth to spend any free hours volunteering for the betterment of the City. With this, Trust falls, but the Percentage of Active Workers in increased.
Passing some more laws can also help with this. Under City’s Citizenship category, you can go for Allow Productive Outsiders with which the percentage of Active Workers will slightly increase over time, but this also marginally increases the Population Growth.
There are also some decisions you must take related to Family. Under Society’s Family category, you’ll find Family Apprenticeship with which the percentage of active workers increases with no other downside included. Communal Parenthood under Family significantly increases the percentage of Active Workers and marginally decreases the Population Growth. It is available after you research Parenthood: Communal Parenthood under Society in the Idea Tree.
Go through these laws and pick the one that’s best suited for the scenario of your city.
Increase the Population
The bigger your population, the more active workers you can have since it’s a percentage. Eventually when the % is high enough, you will need to focus on Population Growth instead.
With Dedicated Motherhood, women who bear children will be permanently spared from other duties to be able to concentrate on raising them. This increases Population Growth but the percentage of Active Workers is slightly decreased.
Maintain Positive Relations with Factions
If you maintain good relations between you and a Faction, you can get Rallies which are caused by increased fervor. This may allow you to gain some benefits from them including the option to recruit more people from that Faction. There are downsides, which is that your relations with other Factions can be negatively impacted. Plus, long rallies can lead to radicalization.
You don’t want Tensions to rise, so making the right decisions is crucial here. Find out if going for Mechanical Production (which reduces the need for active workers) will be more useful to you or not.
Build an Air Transport Hub
Lastly, you can build the Air Transport Hub to reduce the Workforce requirement in nearby Districts. It can be unlocked from Hubs in the Idea tree.
You can also deactivate another District to get some extra workers.
Make sure you are keeping your workers relatively healthy, because if they fall sick or get injured, your output will be affected. Build Hospitals to help them recover and work on reducing Squalor and Disease.
That’s everything you can do for boosting active workers in Frostpunk 2. For your City’s survival, you will need to know how to get more Goods, and reduce Hunger, so be sure to check out our guides for the important points to know.
