These are all the troubleshooting tips that you need to try out to fix the Fallout New Vegas crashing.

Update GPU Drivers

GPU Drivers are one of the main components of PC gaming and must be kept updated constantly. If your GPU drivers aren’t updated, you will likely face the Fallout New Vegas Crashing issue. To fix it, simply head to the website of your GPU driver to check and download updates. Nvidia users can click here, and AMD users can follow this link.

Verify Integrity Of Game Files

Verify the Integrity of the Game Files to make sure that none of the game files are missing or corrupted. This will help you get rid of the crashing issue if it is caused by some fault file. You can do this from your Steam by following these steps –

  • Open Steam and Go to Steam Library.
  • Navigate to Ready or Not and right-click.
  • Click on Properties from the drop-down menu.
  • Locate Local Files and Click on Verify Integrity of Game Files.

Allow Fallout New Vegas on Windows Defender Firewall

Your Windows Defender Firewall settings might be blocking the game and this might cause the crashing issue in Fallout New Vegas. Here’s how you can add it to the Exception list:

  • Open the Firewall & Network Protection from your Windows Security.
  • Locate and click Allow an app through Firewall.
  • Look for the Fallout New Vegas files in the list.
  • If you can’t find it, follow these steps –
    • Click on Change Settings.
    • Click on Add Another App.
    • Browse for your Fallout New Vegas Files and then Add the game to the Exception list.
  • Once you add the game to the Exception list, it should not have any problem with Windows Defender.

Delete the INI File

If you are still facing the Fallout New Vegas crashing issues, you need to follow this path to reach the game folder – C:\Users\user.name\Documents\my games\falloutnv and while you are here, delete the INI files.

Set Steam Compatibility

  • Right-click on the Steam Icon on your Desktop and choose Properties.
  • Click the Compatibility Tab and make sure the box under Compatibility Mode is not checked.
  • Now, close Steam entirely.
  • Open Steam again and attempt to load the game.

Run the Game in Windows Compatibility Mode

  • Right-click on the Fallout: New Vegas launcher application found here:
    • Steam – C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas
    • Epic – C:\Program Files\Epic Games\Fallout New Vegas
    • Microsoft Xbox App – C:\XboxGames\Fallout- New Vegas Ultimate Edition (PC)\Content
  • Select Troubleshoot Compatibility and choose Troubleshoot Program.
  • Check the box that says The Program requires additional permissions and click Next.
  • In the next window, click Test the Program then click Next.
  • Click Yes, save these settings for this program then close the troubleshooter.

Run the Game as an Administrator

Additionally, running the game as an administrator is a helpful way for players to try to fix the Fallout New Vegas crashing issue:

  • Locate the Fallout New Vegas files.
  • Right-click it and go to Properties.
  • Click the Compatibility tab.
  • Check the Run this program as an administrator box at the bottom and click “OK.”

If you are still facing the Fallout New Vegas Crashing Issue after all of this, it’s best that you contact Bethesda Support. There might be some internal issue that is getting overlooked and some professional help might be useful.
