Do You Need Modern Warfare 2 To Play Warzone 2.0?

Published Date :

Warzone 2.0 is the next installment of the famous COD Battle Royale game Warzone. With the release of this game, many players have the same question in mind. Do your need Modern Warfare 2 to play Warzone 2.0? How will the Battle Pass progression work? Will you get benefits for owning both titles? In this article, we will solve all these questions for COD fans.

Can You Play Warzone 2.0 Without Modern Warfare 2

Warzone 2.0 and Season 1 Battle Pass

Warzone 2.0 uses the same mechanics and engine as Modern Warfare 2. The client launcher is also the same for both titles. However, MW2 is a paid game while Warzone 2.0 is announced as a free-to-play title. So you don’t need Modern Warfare 2 to play Warzone 2.0. You will also get to try the new DMZ mode along with Warzone 2.0. You can download the MW2 launcher and you are good to go.

Talking about the Battle Pass, both games will share the same battle pass progression. MW2’s first battle pass will launch along with the release of Warzone 2.0. So if you already own Modern Warfare 2, you will have an easier time unlocking Battle Pass rewards.

Along with a shared Battle Pass progression, your weapon progression as well as your inventory will transfer over to Warzone 2.0. So MW2 owners will have an upper hand from the start. Although if you are wondering if your inventory from the original Warzone will be transferred then the answer is no. The original Warzone will still be playable but without the playlist updates and the Resurgence mode. It will also be renamed, Warzone Caldera. We have an entire guide on what will happen to the original Warzone after the launch of Warzone 2.0 so you can check it out here.

We hope this article answered your question about whether you need Modern Warfare 2 to play Warzone 2.0. Check out more helpful guides on GamerTweak soon.
