In chapter 3 ‘Hopes of Spring’, you will come face to face with a dangerous enemy called the Ice King in Split Fiction. What starts as a cute little cat who just wants some pets, turns into a giant and powerful being who unleashes multiple types of attacks. If you’re stuck at this point, here are some tips and tricks to help you defeat the Ice King in Split Fiction.
How to Beat the Ice King
As the fight begins, you will land on a small platform which will be broken by the boss bit by bit. Stay in your human form and keep moving/dashing away to avoid falling off. This part is all about dodging. The game shows paw marks and highlights on the area where he is about to hit, so you can plan your next move based on that.
After this, a short cutscene appears and you are now ready to beat the Ice King in Split Fiction in a proper boss arena.
First, he will unleash multiple icicles that you need to evade and get between to avoid being hit. Zoe can turn into a fairy and dodge them, while Mio needs to stay human.
After this, the Ice King will stomp the ground and bring ice spikes towards you that you need to jump over as a human or ape (Mio). As soon as Zoe sees the prompt to interact with the boss, use the power of nature to hold him in place and bring him down to the ground. This is where Mio must get closer and use the prompt to land multiple punches on the enemy. This will damage the boss quite a bit.
After this, he will start spawning orange spikes from the sky, so turn to your human form and keep moving to evade the orange markings on the ground. There will be more spikes—multiple types at a time—that you need to dodge carefully. Even if one character dies, ensure that the other survives until the first player respawns, so that you can keep going from here.
This was the pattern of his attacks—you need to repeat the part where you pull him down and unleash punches. When his health drops to about 50%, the next phase of the Ice King boss fight begins. He will break the arena and Mio and Zoe must slide down the ramp without taking damage so make sure to jump over the spikes.
In the next room that you find yourselves in, you’ll see water which means it’s time for Mio to turn into the sea creature. But before that, you need to survive the storm that the Ice King summons by dashing and evading. When it clears up, dive in and press the prompt to throw the green plant seed upwards that the other player can pull and throw at the boss as Groot. During this, Mio needs to quickly turn into an ape, approach the boss as he’s stunned, and get some attacks in.
Next, he will freeze the pond and bring out some fireballs that follow you. As an ape, evade them and they will explode on their own, after a bit. The storm gets summoned again, so follow the same steps as above. Lastly, when the water defrosts, go in and throw the seed up and get to attacking once again.
Since the pink pearl on its head is to be destroyed, the player controlling Mio needs to follow the prompt to land the final few blows. This should be enough to take down the Ice King in Split Fiction.
