Many returning players are wondering how to find save files location and transfer or import old characters in Diablo 2 Resurrected. It would be much easier if you can simply import your old characters and continue right from where you left off but in all-new graphics. So if you are wondering the same, don’t worry we got your back. Here’s how to get old characters in D2R.
How to Import Old Characters Save Files in Diablo 2 Resurrected
To import offline characters in Diablo 2 Resurrected, you need to transfer the old Save files to the new game location. To do this you need to copy your old Diablo 2 save files, and paste them in “C:\Users\(your user name)\Saved Games\Diablo II Resurrected” save location. Now your all old offline characters save will be transferred to Diablo 2 Resurrected.
If you are trying to do this before you are starting Diablo 2 Resurrected, and don’t see a folder in the save file location, don’t worry. To create the folder, you just have to start the D2R and create a test character (which you can easily delete later). Once you create the test character, the folder will be now there in the Save File location for sure. And by any chance your D2R save file location is not on the same path as we shared, then a quick search in File Explorer with the character name you created will show the save file location. So this is the folder you have to drag and paste your old files to transfer the characters.
Transfering Online vs Offline Characters in D2R
Also, you need to keep in mind that this Blizzard currently only allows you to move your offline characters save files from the old Diablo 2 to the new Resurrected version. And as now all the multiplayer happens online and the characters are saved at the server end of Blizzard, you will not be able to transfer your previous online characters.
This is not bad considering many characters with mods and other tweaks that the official server doesn’t support. For example, if you are using Lord of Destruction and mods like PlugY, or Median XL, this will create many issues with the online character when the servers are trying to keep the game fair for all. So for now you can just transfer your offline characters to Diablo 2 Resurrected. We’ll update this if Blizzard officially supports the online import feature. But it is very unlikely this will ever happen.
