Sony has the largest player base in the console wars and it seems that they do not want their players to miss out on playing together, basically that is what makes an online community stick together and to achieve it, Sony is looking into cross cross-generational play which will let players of the current generation and the next generation console owners play together.
In a recent interview with CNET, Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan said that they wish for seamless integration.
“Whether it’s backwards compatibility or the possibility of cross generational play, we’ll be able to transition that community to next-gen”, said Ryan. “It won’t be a binary choice about whether you have to be ether on PlayStation 4 or next-gen to continue your friendship. The community has never been bigger and it’s never been more engaged, a lot of people we brought in, in 2013, are still with us and the amount of time and money they invest in the platform is very humbling.”
It is nice that a major player like Sony is looking after its customers and not abandoning the previous console owners as soon as the new generation of consoles appears.
As Sony is set to miss out on E3 this year, we cannot determine when the next generation of consoles will hit the market but recent leaks have pointed at them being revolutionary when compared to the current generation of consoles.
