After a lot of weekly updates, Grow a Garden is packed with a lot of pets with various abilities, and one of them is the Crab, a common-tier pet. Here’s what you need to know about getting it, its ability, and how you can use it to boost your garden.
How to Get the Crab Pet
The Crab is a common-tier pet that you can hatch from a Common Summer Egg which costs 1 million Sheckles and is obtainable from the Pet Egg shop (with a 35% chance to appear there). With a 25% hatch chance, the Crab is relatively easy to obtain and was added to the game during the Summer Update on June 21, 2025.
While it is a cute pet with a unique walk cycle, it is unique because it’s the only pet in the game that actively leaves your garden and interacts with other players’ gardens.
What does the Crab do in Grow a Garden?
The Crab has a special passive ability called Pinch Pocket. Here’s how it works:
- Every few minutes (~6 minutes), the Crab wanders off into another player’s garden.
- Once there, it performs a harmless “pinch” and you gain a small amount of Sheckles, but the other player loses nothing.
- After pinching, it returns to your garden and rests before repeating the cycle.
This pinch mechanic is non-intrusive, meaning you earn a bonus without affecting anyone else’s progress. It also works across different terrains and even when the target player is farming taller plants. This pet has a hunger of 3000 which should be easily manageable.
Unlike more action-driven pets, the Crab doesn’t find seeds, grow plants, or impact your garden directly via mutations. Its role is simple: a slow and steady sheckle generator with a social twist. If you don’t have a Mole that digs up Sheckles for you yet, this is the next best choice if you are in need of some passive income.
