The Chainsaw is one of the most powerful and efficient tools you can obtain in 99 Nights in the Forest. It’s considered an “Axe” and “Tool,” so it works like a hybrid as a chopping device and a weapon. While it can deal damage to enemies, its true strength lies in its wood-cutting efficiency. If you’re tired of slow harvesting and want to speed up your resource gathering process, here’s what you need to know about obtaining and using the Chainsaw.
What does the Chainsaw do in 99 Nights?
The Chainsaw is a fully automatic tool that continuously cuts as long as you hold the attack button. It takes just 2 hits to chop a regular tree and 38 hits for a big tree – reduced to 35 hits if you upgrade it with the Axe Trim Kit. Interact with a big tree with it equipped, press left click, and wait for a few seconds – the tree will fall over. Compared to other axes, this makes the Chainsaw one of the fastest tools in the game for collecting wood.
However, it’s worth noting that this tool isn’t meant for combat. Its attack range and damage are relatively low, so it’s best used strictly for chopping trees rather than fighting enemies. It’s mainly useful if you’re building large and detailed bases or farming a lot of wood. Once you obtain the Axe Trim Kit, use it on your Chainsaw to make chopping big trees even faster.
How to Get the Chainsaw
You can obtain the Chainsaw in two ways: finding it in a chest or crafting it yourself.
1. Finding the Chainsaw in a Ruby Chest

The Chainsaw can appear as loot inside a Ruby Chest which is a rare hest found when you venture deep into the forest as well as the Cultist Stronghold. These chests are usually harder to locate but contain valuable and rare items. So, while exploring, keep an eye out for Ruby Chests, because you may obtain the Chainsaw directly, instead of collecting the materials for crafting.
2. Crafting the Chainsaw in the Workshop
If you prefer a more reliable method, you can craft the Chainsaw directly at the Workshop once you have the necessary materials. Here’s the crafting recipie:
- Cultist Gem x4
- Bear Pelt x4
- Alpha Wolf Pelt x2
- Bunny Foot x6
- Scrap x10
Once you’ve collected these items, visit the Workshop and use the recipe to craft your Chainsaw in 99 Nights in the Forest. This option requires some effort because obtaining rare materials like Cultist Gems and Alpha Wolf Pelts will be challenging, but it guarantees that you’ll get the tool without relying on luck from chest drops.
