Dead Rails has added different versions of trains to make the adventure more interesting, and you can buy a variant at the Train station in the Lobby by spending Bonds. One of them is the Cattle Car, and this guide has everything you need to know before you embark on your journey.

Cattle Car in Roblox Dead Rails
The Cattle Car has an enclosed wooden box instead of the default flatcar. It has three entrances (roof hatch, left door, right door) and a solid rear wall. It costs 225 Bonds. The train’s roof shields you from environmental hazards (such as lightning), its walls let you weld more storage, and its rear wall helps prevent falls, but it’s best to avoid jumping.
It’s one of the most affordable upgrades, but its wooden walls do not stop bullets, so you will have to take extra care to protect yourself as a team.
If you’re playing as a Vampire, you can protect yourself from sun damage in the train, and the expandable welding surfaces on the floor, walls, and roof can provide extra loot or fuel storage. You can also easily seal the side doors with metal sheets or barbed wire while retaining access to the roof.
Players who have unlocked the Eggslinger class can go for this train because their eggs won’t fall off the train (it is not guaranteed every time, though).
Aside from the above points, the Cattle Car in Dead Rails is good because:
- It prevents most melee enemies and creatures from boarding the train.
- If you’ve had resources slide off the train before, this train will stop that from happening. However, note that if you weld too many items, it can slow down the train’s acceleration.
- This train makes it easy to fortify entrances while focusing on a single chokepoint at the hatch.
- The price is affordable if you can’t get the Armored train yet.
The two major drawbacks would be the reduced visibility to the back compared to the default train and the fact that enemies with guns can still land shots through the Cattle car train in Dead Rails. Plus, if the team leaves the roof hatch unguarded, it can work as a point of entry for enemies.
One good strategy is to mount automatic turrets on the roof to cover all angles. Focus turret fire on ranged attackers since the wood provides no bullet protection.
Assign one teammate to guard the hatch, and others can use turrets or firearms behind the walls. This will ensure that you are not surrounded, especially at night.
Many players agree that the Cattle Car is a solid step up from the default flatcar, especially for groups on a budget. It ranks above the basic train but below fully armored cars because its wooden walls simply cannot stop bullets.
All in all, if you need more protection and storage without spending a fortune, the Cattle Car in Dead Rails is a good choice. When fortified properly, it provides excellent value and decent early-game defense.
