To unlock Carian Study Hall in Elden Ring, you will first need to defeat Rennala of the Full Moon at the Raya Lucaria Academy. Once here, you need to make your way inside and past the sorcerer.
Upon looking around here, you will notice a space for an item on the altar. You need to place the Carian Inverted Statue here.
To get the Carian Inverted Statue, you need to first complete Rannis’s Quest. While completing this quest entirely is not a requirement, you might as well get it done. If not, you at least need to get to the city of Nokron and get the Finger Slayer Blade item. Acquiring this item and returning back to Ranni will see you get your hands on the Carian Inverted Statue as a reward.
Once you get the statue, you can place it in the empty spot on the altar. Doing so will result in the inverting of the Carian Study Hall.
