The Legend of Zelda series has been one of the most popular game series of recent history and with the massive success of Breath of The Wild, a sequel was inevitable but the main reason a sequel to the Breath of The Wild was made because the developers had DLC ideas.
It had gotten to a point where they could manufacture a game out of the post-game DLC, and that’s exactly what they did. When speaking with Kotaku, Zelda producer Aonuma said.
“When we released the DLC for Breath of the Wild, we realized that this is a great way to add more elements to the same world. But when it comes down to technical things, DLC is pretty much data – you’re adding data to a preexisting title. And so when we wanted to add bigger changes, DLC is not enough, and that’s why we thought maybe a sequel would be a good fit. Initially we were thinking of just DLC ideas, but then we had a lot of ideas and we said, ‘This is too many ideas, let’s just make one new game and start from scratch.’”
It is incredible to see how much input the developers still had once the game was released in term of post-launch updates where it got to a point where they decide to create another game altogether out of it. One thing is pretty sure that if the sequel is anything like Breath of The Wild, then it will be a massive hit.
