Bloodborne was released in 2015 and received positive reviews across the globe with ratings of 9, 9.5, or even 10 from publications. Its popularity remains strong even more than 8 years after its release, which begs the question – is FromSoftware working on Bloodborne and is there going to be a sequel? Here’s everything we know so far and what we can expect in the next few years.
Is there going to be a Bloodborne 2?
Unfortunately, there is no official Bloodborne 2 release date and FromSoftware has not yet announced a sequel or confirmed that it is in development. There have been various rumors and speculations but nothing concrete has been revealed.
This lack of information about Bloodborne 2 could be due to FromSoftware focusing on other projects and the time and resources the company has available. Its smash hit Elden Ring gets a DLC called Shadow of the Erdtree soon and there are rumors of Elden Ring 2 as well. Apart from that, they released Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon in 2023 which was well-received by fans as well.
Is Bloodborne 2 Canceled?
Fans can remain hopeful because Bloodborne 2 has NOT been officially canceled. FromSoftware might drop a surprise announcement about the sequel someday. That’s because Hidetaka Miyazaki, the president of FromSoftware, has mentioned in interviews that he’s open to working on a Bloodborne sequel, but there’s no guarantee. He said, “Unfortunately, I’m not the one to decide,” during BGS 2019. So, while this gives us no timeline, the doors aren’t completely closed, yet.
Bloodborne fans are eager to get their hands on a sequel so there’s no doubt about the demand from the gaming community. After the massive success of Elden Ring, new players have joined the Soulsborne fan club, making the audience bigger than ever before.
During its year, Bloodborne ended up garnering various nominations and wins. It was the PlayStation Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards in 2015 and the Best Original Game as well. It also won the Game Design award at the 12th British Academy Games Awards.
Bloodborne PS5 Remaster
Rumors are swirling about a Bloodborne PS5 Remaster and that’s via the unfortunate Insomniac hack. It revealed lots of confidential information, one of them being that the game sold 7 million+ copies so far, as per Den of Geek. This success might mean that the devs may secretly be working on a PS5 remaster to grab those audiences that missed out on the game in its original version. Plus, fans constantly express their longing for a 60fps experience with improved visuals on the PS5.
Back in 2021, it was also rumored that Bluepoint Games was working on a Bloodborne PS5 remaster and a sequel. This was leaked by Colin Moriarty (thanks IGN) who has leaked the Demon’s Souls remake previously. As per Moriarty’s sources, not only is Bluepoint working on the Bloodborne PS5 Remaster but also on a sequel.
Moriarty tweeted, “I’m hearing through the grapevine Bluepoint may be on a journey to Yharnam.” It’s worth noting that Bluepoint Games was acquired by PlayStation in September 2021, making them a first-party developer for PlayStation Studios.
However, due to the lack of any official announcements by Bluepoint or SIE, this remains speculation at this point, so take it with a grain of salt.
We will keep an eye out for any announcements, rumors, speculations, and leaks about Bloodborne 2 and its potential release date. In the meantime, you can enjoy other games like Sekiro, Dark Souls, and even Lies of P to scratch that Soulsborne itch.
