Unfortunately, there is no official announcement yet, but there are rumors and speculations that are making the rounds. GTA 6 Release Date – When is GTA VI Coming Out?
Thankfully, we have some news of the GTA 6 release date. In December 2023, Rockstar celebrates its 25th anniversary and they have revealed that the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto will be released in early December. With that, there’s a chance we will have either an exact release date or a window of release which will put speculations to rest and give players something more concrete to look forward to.
As per our guess, we estimated this:
GTA 5 was released in 2013 and based on different factors, insiders have predicted the GTA 6 release date to be in late 2024 or early 2025. Players can most likely expect an official trailer and some type of reveal towards the end of 2023.
Grand Theft Auto 6 Announcement Date
GameSpot News revealed on March 7, 2023 that “according to reputable GTA leaker Tez2, the long-awaited game is aiming for a holiday 2024 launch.” But due to multiple shifts in the potential release date internally, there’s a chance that it could also be delayed to 2025.
Another information leaked by Tez2 is that the main game content could be reduced and put in a DLC that will release further ahead in the game’s roadmap.
The trailer of Grand Theft Auto V was released on 2nd November 2011 (the game was released on September 17, 2013) so there was a 2-year gap between them. Assuming they go for a similar strategy this time around too, we can expect a trailer in 2023. It was announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 was in the making by Rockstar Games in February 2022, but the development has most likely begun many years ago (some even speculate it was in 2014).
As Rockstar has revealed, they are aware that they need to exceed players’ expectations of GTA VI. This is why they are “steadily moving more development resources towards the next entry in the series”, thereby delaying the release date of the next in the RDR series.
So, now that most of the resources in the company are dedicated to the completion of the game, it looks like the GTA 6 release date will stick to being in 2024 or 2025. It remains to be seen if any other issues create a delay in their roadmap.

GTA 6 Gameplay Leak
In one of the biggest leaks in video game history, GTA 6’s footage was leaked and gamers got a glimpse into the world before time. It was, very obviously, an early build and the final release is going to be a much, much more polished version. Still, it faced a lot of heat from the audience for looking outdated. But, it also gave a new lease of life to GTA fans because this time, they had some concrete information about the next installment.
The footage revealed the location where the series is going to take place (Miami/Vice City), showed us the protagonists (with the first female protagonist), and gave us a sneak peek into missions and how the map will potentially look (which is speculated to be bigger than GTA 5).
One of the major reasons why GTA 5 worked (and became one of the most profitable entertainment products of all time with $6 billion+ in sales) is due to the story, characters, immersive gameplay, detailed open world, NPC interactions, realistic missions, active modding community and of course, GTA Online. This shows what a huge endeavor this game was and exceeding expectations for the next title is certainly going to be daunting. It’s best that the game is released when it’s thoroughly tested and majorly bug-free to avoid another Cyberpunk 2077-style release fiasco.
Moreover, the recent release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition was abysmal, so it’s time for Rockstar to step things up.
The dev teams also end up being under great pressure during “crunch time” which can hamper the health of the employees as well as affect the end product. In Rockstar, though, it seems that positive changes have been made in the form of leadership training, surveys for feedback, better communication, and cutting back on crunch.
GTA 6 Delayed Due to the Leak?
While it was a nightmare for Rockstar, they have said that the massive leak has not delayed their release timeline.
Rockstar Games released this statement on GTA 6 leak:
“Rockstar Games recently experienced a network intrusion in which an unauthorized third party illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information from its systems, including early development footage for the next Grand Theft Auto. At this time, we do not anticipate any disruption to our live game services nor any long-term effect on the development of our ongoing projects.”
What platforms will GTA 6 be Released on?
Since the potential release date of the game is in 2024 or 2025, the game may release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, but official confirmation is yet to be announced. Whether it will also release for PS4 and Xbox One? Time will tell, but it seems unlikely at the moment.
