To get into Debug Mode in Sonic 2, you need to play the following sounds: 1,9,9,2,1,1,2,4. You need to play these sounds during the level select screen, and then press Start while holding the A button.

Next, press the B button. Click on any character in the selected level and then put it on the screen. You can change characters (sprites) by pressing the A button. Once you place the sprite of your choice, simply press the C button.

Bonus Points

If you want to get extra points when playing Sonic 2 (let’s face it, who does not want extra points) you should enter the Debug Mode code. This will result in the clock temporarily freezing, giving you a bonus of 50,000.

Green Sonic

In order to use the Green Sonic cheat, you need to enter the debug code as well as the level you wish to play. Next, you need to pick from one of the Emerald Hill Zone levels. You need to do so because the code only tends to work in the 1st and 2nd Zones.

Once you begin the level, simply press the B button. Doing so will make you a ring. You now need to press the A button 4 times to become 4 consecutive rings. Next, hold the C button along with the right button for a period of around 5 seconds. Now, go back to the beginning and keep pressing the A button right until you reach the peak of a waterfall. Once you get to this point, repeat the steps mentioned earlier. Once you complete these steps, press the B button. Doing so will turn Sonic green.

In order to play Sonic 2 at night, you need to first enter the Debug Mode. Next, press the C button and then press Start to begin a level.

Extra Lives in Chemical Plant in Sonic 2

To access the Chemical Plant Extra Lives cheat in Sonic 2, you need to play the game right until Chemical Plant Act 1. Once you reach the wall with the Spinny Badnik & warp tube, break the said tube and pass right through it. Upon exiting this tube, you will find a Ring Box next to a tower. You need to climb this tower, atop which you will find one 1-up. Moving to the left from here will get you another 1-up. Move left once more and you will find yet another 1-up.

Now, head back to the same tower where you began from. Head for the first tower and then turn right. You will now notice that you have 3 extra lives than what you originally had.

Slow Motion

To get the Slow Motion cheat in Sonic 2, you first need to enable Level Selection. Now, once you play the game, pause it and then press A to restart the game, B to slow down the game (with slow motion), and C for Frame Advance.

Two Tails Cheat in Sonic 2

To get two tails in Sonic 2, you need to enter your level and then enter the debug codes. next, head over to the Sky Chase level. Now, with the help of Debug Mode, create a transfer box and then break it open. As you spot Sonic dying, press the B button to get right back into the debug mode. Now, point your cursor upwards until you spot Tails. Once you spot Tails, simply exit debug mode. Jump once you do so, and you will now notice two Tails.

Shielded Tails Cheat in Sonic 2 Debug Mode

If you wish to, you can also add a shield for Tails by entering debug mode and then hitting a shield. Next, place a teleport box and hit it. Doing so will enable the cheat and give Tails a permanent shield.

Tails to Miles Cheat in Sonic 2 Debug Mode

With the help of this cheat, you will be able to see Tails being called Miles, and vice versa. To activate it, you need to press Up, Up, Up, Down, Down, Down, Up or Up, Up, Down, Down, Up, Up, Up, Up (in the exact order).

Shortcut to Emerald Hill in Sonic 2

The Emerald Hill shortcut will help you easily get through Emerald Hill 1 & 2. To activate it, you need to connect both Sonic as well as Knuckles. After you do so, you will need to play as Knuckles. Next, climb as high as possible before moving to the right. And that’s it. Doing so will see you quickly finish the level.

Shortcut to Wing Fortress in Sonic 2 Debug Mode

To complete Wing Fortress in Sonic 2, you need to move to the right as much as possible, but without climbing. When doing so, make sure to have some rings with you. As soon as you spot any blades blocking your path, you need to hit them. Upon becoming invincible, you need to walk right through these blades. Next, hop onto the platforms towards the right. Doing so will complete half of the Wing Fortress level.

2 Player Mode

With the help of debug mode in Sonic 2, you can turn on 2 Player Mode. In order to do so, you need to head over to the one-player mode. Here, you will notice that Tails follows you whenever you run. Adding an extra controller to the second port and pressing a button will give you the ability to play Sonic 2 in two-player mode. The only drawback here is the absence of scores and a lack of life limits.
