Love playing Fallout 4 using mods? You might have to hold on a bit longer before updating to the next gen version if you plan to keep using your mods and the script extender.
If you have played any Fallout game then you know modding is a big part of it. As such, the modders everywhere are curious about if there are any updates for the Fallout 4 Script Extender next gen update. This is important because the next-gen version of the base game just dropped and changes things around. However, this doesn’t make it immediately compatible with the last F4SE version. Additionally, both the script extender and the game’s version need to work with each other for your mods to work properly.
For those that are new to modding, Fallout 4 Script Extender or F4SE “is a modder’s resource that expands the scripting capabilities of Fallout 4. It does so without modifying the executable files on disk, so there are no permanent side effects.”.
You need to ensure you do not update the game to the latest version. Or downgrade the game to the previous version so that F4SE, the game, and mods are compatible with each other again. Before we check the steps for it, here is the current update on the F4SE update for next-gen compatibility by the F4SE team:
“The 2024-04-25 Fallout 4 update (1.10.980 and later) has broken F4SE and the rest of the native code modding scene similarly to Skyrim’s “Anniversary Edition” patch. I am working on an update and cannot currently offer a timeline for its availability or whether there will be any critical technical issues that would block an update.” The team asks you not to email them with questions, and you can check out the Nexus Thread for more.
Now, make sure you don’t run it from Steam or from its exe you can either launch it from the F4SE_loader.exe, add this to Steam and launch it from there, or use Vortex to launch the game.
F4SE and your mods should now work properly as they did previously. In case you mess up some steps, you can uninstall and reinstall the game to start over.
That is all for the Fallout 4 Script Extender next-gen update and how to save F4SE and your mods to keep them working.
