Want to know the next Riot MMO release date? Ever since Executive Producer Greg Street, has announced an MMORPG, LOL fans haven’t kept their calm. Set in the world of Runeterra, this massively multiplayer online and role-playing game will expand the world of the LoL. But when is this highly anticipated MMO coming out? Do we have a release date? Here’s everything to know about the release date for League Of Legends MMO.
Unfortunately, there is no release date for the Riot MMO as of now. But we can expect it to release by late 2024 or early 2025. This upcoming LoL MMORPG was first announced by Greg Street in the year 2020. It is currently in early development and expected to release in the distant future.
Riot Games have been hiring several people for different job titles on this anticipated MMO. But it is safe to say, we will have to wait for a long time before it releases. Why? Because MMOs can take many years before they are developed and ready to ship. MMORPG games tend to be riskier than games from other genres.
Yes, the upcoming Riot MMO is confirmed to be canon to the League of Legends. When asked if the game will be canon, Greg Street replied in a tweet, “Think about it this way. If we’re successful and have millions of players playing hundreds of hours with just as much time discussing stories and characters with their friends and online, it will become the focus of the lore. MMOs have a way of doing that.”
Street also shared that, the strategy now is to be more cohesive rather than focusing on decentralization. So, the writing, narrative, and direction team of the League of Legends will be closely working with Riot’s MMO team.
Greg Street has been leading the Riot MMORPG’s development ever since it was announced. But due to a combo of personal and professional considerations, Greg decided to step down from his role while sharing it on Twitter. Adding to this, Greg also shared “I said from the beginning that building a League of Legends MMO worthy of you all was going to be a long journey”. He also stated that the MMO is in good hands and he does plan to stay in the game’s development.
Riot Game’s co-founder, Marc Merill, shared that it will be a long journey to get to the finish line. He tweeted that the MMO is in early development and shared that Greg has run an amazing first leg with an incredible journey. However, Merill did not state who will be replacing Greg as the Executive Producer. He concluded the Tweet thread by posting a link to the company’s recruitment asking people to join in the game’s development.

Since all the Riot Games have been free to play so far, it is safe to say the Riot MMO will be free to play. As it is connected and canon to Legends of League, it is most likely to be free. However, as the maintenance of any MMO is costly, we can expect Riot’s MMORPG to be paid as well. The devs could go for the in-game purchases for cosmetics and characters like Lost Ark. Or the MMO team can decide to go for the approach led by Diablo 4.
But seeing the pattern of Riot Games so far, the upcoming LOL MMO will most likely be free to play. Although for confirmations, we will have to wait till the devs spill the beans and reveal more info.
Currently, there are no official trailers or teasers for the Riot MMORPG. However, we will update this section as soon as any trailers are revealed for the Riot MMO.
As of now, it is not confirmed which Runterra regions or locations will be featured in the MMO. Considering the game is canon to LOL and its lore, we might see several locations from the Runterra. These locations include Bandle City, Shadow Isles, and Ezreal.
